Bishop Barron's Epiphany Homily

Whew! I just love Bishop Robert Barron! He always explains things in a way that make things click. To think about the "road" the Magi had to take to get to Jesus. We can so easily dismiss that their journey was anything but easy. No beautifully paved highways. No maps or even a Quick Trip or Casey's for a nice beverage stop along the way šŸ™ƒ. They had mountains, valleys, rugged terrains. Who knows how they got their food, but I'm sure that was a battle in itself. Not to mention all the other trouble they surely faced along the way as well. But through prayer and guidance, they knew their journey had to be completed. So they set their eyes on that star and on their way they went. And with them, they left prepared for what they knew they would find, carrying the best gifts they had to offer to be presented to the new born King. Boy, I needed this reminder today. In our life journey there will ALWAYS be battles. We will face struggles, oppositions and so many distractions trying to keep us from God's love and grace. Especially in our spirtual journey. As Bishop Barron says in this video: "Expect opposition. And then muster the courage with God's grace to face it down." And then, most importantly then, be prepared to give the BEST of what you have to offer, not the leftovers or just a pinch, or a nibble of a bigger piece of the pie. Be prepared to offer the best of the best. This seems to be a common theme I am hearing this week with many things I have listened to. Which makes me realize, I am being spoken to and I need to listen. 🄓 Am I giving my first fruits, my "best of me," the first part of my days, to God, to others? Or am I just squeezing in some time with Him to check it off the list? Am I giving my best to those around me, or have I drifted off just checking the list of to do's to get through my days? 😬 It really is amazing the difference it can make when we put Him first. It's never an "easy" road to travel. But man! It's always the best route to go! And once you find the goodness His love has to offer down the path He leads you on, you just can't help but crave more! Want to give more. Oh it's just that good. šŸ˜ Put God first, and He will always provide everything we need, to be right where He needs us in the time He needs us there. To give the best of ourselves to Him and to those around us. Follow that star. Seek His light. His love. And in turn He will give us the grace and the gifts we need to do the rest. šŸ™
