ADVENT, DAY 4

LUKE, CHAPTER 4

-Temptation-

Oh, how it sneaks into our hearts and souls when we least expect it. As a Mother, I am tempted every day to just throw in the towel. Trying to do all the things, with only complaints in return, it can really beat down your spirit. But then, those little moments happen. It's almost like you can hear a bell ring, chiming, this is it. This is the why! This is the reason you push through! There are so many temptations we as humans face in every day life. From that delicious extra helping of food, to one more drink, random worthless gossip with a friend that can lead to hurtful words about one of God's own. Giving up on your loved one's because you just don't have the fight left in you, for them. Spending that last dollar on something that may only last a minute. So. Many. Tempting things, testing us. Every. Single. Day. Satan knows when to hit us, and he waits until we can't fight the fight.

But, look at this verse here. After 40 days, starved and completely drained dry, you find Jesus, basically saying, Uh, yeah... so?! He knew what Satan was trying to do, and even at his weakest moment he said, these things you are offering, these nice shiny promises are cool and all, but I have bigger plans. Plans to help God's people. Plans to live for others. God needs me, and these tests you are throwing at me... Nope! And just like that, "the devil departed from him, but only for a time" (Luke 4:13) You see here, "for a time." Because, he wasn't done just yet. And like us, Jesus was tempted again and again. But the more he had that faith, the more he could see right through that slimy Satans' ways. Today I pray, Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. THY Kingdom come. THY WILL be done. ON EARTH, as it is in heaven. Give us THIS day, our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses. As WE FORGIVE those who trespass against us, LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, but DELIVER US from evil. Amen. #deliverusfromevil
